Seat belt laws have been proven to be used for revenue generation not only by the fines but the by bribery of federal funds to states to enact primary enforcement laws.
The compelling states interest argument does not hold up under strict scrutiny because of false data and talking points with no scientific backing.
For the simple FACT that every persons body reacts differently to the force of an accident, the estimation of lives saved by wearing a seat belt can not be proven.
This petition is not to suggest that people should not wear seat belts, and by no means suggests laws for children should be banned, but people of driving age should have the option.
