According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over one million Americans suffer a slip, trip, and fall injury and over 17, 000 people die in the U.S. annually because of these injuries.
In contrast, according to 2011 data from the CDC, deaths attributed to firearms are:
Accidental discharge 851
Suicide 19,766
Homicide 11,101
Undetermined Intent 222
In total: At least 31,940 people died from gun injuries in 2011. So if we eliminate homicide, which is an illegal crime most likely perpetrated by a criminal with an illegally obtained firearm & suicide which is elective, then we are left with 1,073 deaths.
