Young children are often unable to stand up for themselves, especially when it comes to choices that their parents make. Bad habits such as smoking have already been banned in most, if not all public places yet no regulations are in place to protect children of smokers.
According to the CDC, smoking can cause harm to people of all ages in several ways:
- tobacco has cancer-causing agents
- smoke affects the immune system and thus may increase the risk for respiratory and other infections
- smoke interferes with the way the body takes up oxygen which causes oxidative stress that can lead to a chronic lung injury
- smoking interferes with the way the body repairs damaged cells by lowering the levels of antioxidants in the body
Let us ban smoking where children are present!
