Ban Solitary Confinement for Minors Held in Federal Custody

Created by R.G. on September 27, 2015

Our juvenile justice system is broken. The facts show it:
- Of all developed nations, the US is #1 in incarcerating kids
- We even lock kids up for skipping school and running away

What’s worse is that despite data proving solitary confinement can result in serious neurological and psychological damage, we routinely submit thousands of kids, some as young as 11 years old, to this isolation.

Recently President Obama called the practice into question asking: “Do we really think it makes sense to lock so many people alone in tiny cells for 23 hours a day?”

With over 12 states considering actions to limit solitary confinement, momentum is building. Sign today to tell the White House to end this damaging practice unless it’s a temporary way to prevent injuries to the child or others.
