All too often we open our mailboxes to find it filled with useless flyers, catalogues, and promotional materials that we never requested. Occasionally even phonebooks come, which haven't been useful in years. These materials are not only annoying and costly to the postal service, but they are harmful to the environment.
We need to think of a logical way to ban the practice of sending mass spam mail, which I define as unwarranted mail of a commercial nature addressed to nobody in particular. All of those pieces or mail addressed to "current resident of [address].
At the very least, a computerized mechanism should be implemented by the postal service that filters out all spam mail to a specific address, if its resident requests the block. The mail would automatically be recycled by USPS.
