Telecom companies in the United States, serving United States citizens, typically charge an additional fee if you choose to use your phone as a "hotspot" to extend your data plan to your other personal devices. This is an unethical practice.The reason it is unethical is, the contract plan sells data/month. The carriers should have no say in how the consumer uses this data. If the consumer goes over his/her limit, they should be charged extra. But if the consumer stays within their data plan limits, what justification does the telecom company have for the additional charge?The telecom companies have foreseen this petition coming, so they currently bill $0 for the use of the tethered hotspot, but REQUIRE you to buy additional data per month, whether you need it or not. Ban this practice.
