46 states and the the District of Columbia have laws that ban text messaging for all drivers. Of the four remaining states Arizona, Missouri, Montana and Texas two have no ban and two have a partial ban. No state bans all cell phone use for all drivers. Studies show 1 out of 4 accidents are cause by texting and driving. Yearly 424,000 injuries involve a distracted driver and motor vehicle crashes are now the leading cause of death for U.S. teens. Drivers are 23 times more likely to be in an accident if they are distracted by their cell phone. By allowing state legislature to drag their feet on adopting laws, preventable death and injuries are continuing rise. Lives will be saved by banning the use of handheld electronic devices and texting while driving for all states and all drivers.
