This petition is to abolish the authorization for municipalities to use automated vehicle identification systems to identify violators of traffic regulations and issue citations based on photographic or video evidence, and creates a prohibition on such activity. Photo enforcement programs are in violation to our 5th amendment right to remain silent when tasked to provide information on the violator if the accused is not at fault. Additionally, the right against self-incrimination is removed. Local governments have unethically and irresponsibly reduced crimes to civil offences to remove amendment rights such as the 6th amendment right to face your accuser to generate revenues. It’s time to take the profit motive out of traffic enforcement by banning cameras in our country.
