the exclusive use of manual transmissions in civilian vehicles by default requires the driver to focus on the use of the clutch/gear shift instead of their device(s) for changing songs, texting, etc. As a secondary result, manual transmissions almost always (if not every time) get better gas mileage than their automatic counterparts and would require the driver to have greater skill at driving before being able to obtain a driver's license. And should the issue of cargo space be a necessity, many new hatchbacks have class-leading rear cargo space with rear seats up and even more with the rear seats folded down as well as being able to tow light trailers and use hitch-mounted and rooftop carriers.
