Purpose:
This petition is to request that the use of cellular devices be prohibited from use in public areas. The benefit of doing so is twofold: Increase public alertness, as well as reduce telephone gridlock during emergency situations.
Background:
In the past decade, technology has advanced at a stupendous rate. Individuals are now able to instantly connect with their families and friends, scheduling a meeting takes minutes instead of hours, and information is now available within seconds. As such, this avalanche of technology has created a surge of use in the US.
Unfortunately, this progression has also been accompanied with unfavorable effects. In particular, a majority of individuals in transit have become affixed to their device, creating a safety hazard in public areas.
