Ban the use of hormones from American beef.

Created by K.M. on April 09, 2013

For decades Americans have been eating beef containing unsafe hormones including zeranol (an estrogen compound), trenbolone acetate (TBA) (an anabolic steroid), and melengestrol acetate (MGA) (a progesterone). Human exposure to these synthetic hormones can be detrimental to our health causing cancer, reproductive complications, and other endocrine disruptions. Humans are exposed to these chemicals through the beef, milk and other dairy products and through drinking water which is contaminated by the cattle’s excrement. The European Union has banned these hormones out of concern for their citizens for nearly 25 years. American cattle farmers currently make special accommodations to sell meat to the European citizens; the same practices should be used for the meat given to American citizens.
