I believe there is no valid reason to continue the use of mercury in dental fillings.
Not only are there concerns about the mercury, more of the tooth needs removed so these fillings will stay in the tooth. These fillings are not like composite fillings that adhere to the tooth.
The only reason they are used that I'm aware of is because it's cheaper for insurance companies and some insurance companies won't cover composite fillings.
