ban the use of plastic bags in the United States.

Plastic bags are detrimental to the environment. 350 billion bags are used in the US and only about 1% of them are recycled. Plastic bags are made from oil. 12 million barrels of oil are needed for 100 billion bags. The oil used in America for plastic bags is greater than the oil demand of Iceland or North Korea. Greenpeace says that 267 marine species are known to have suffered from getting entangled in or ingesting marine debris. 90% of that debris is plastic. China, Mexico City, Rwanda, and other places have banned them and I think we would benefit greatly to follow in their footsteps. It would save us so much in oil, cut down costs on recycling, reduce the amount of plastic found in oceans and landfills as well as reduce the amount of plastic that kills animals and marine life.
