So Sharks are not cute and cuddly but they are VERY important for our environment. They are not the man killers that the media and folklore typically portray them to be. They are being slaughtered (est: 100 million/yr) for the Shark Fin Soup market. Abhorrent! All the “fisherman” want is the shark fins because they bring in big $; It’s all about short-term greed (multibillion $). It is estimated that over half of the earth’s oxygen supply comes from the ocean by phytoplankton converting c02. As stated by Rob Stewart: “Sharks eat small and medium-sized fish that feed on phytoplankton. That phytoplankton absorbs carbon dioxide. If shark numbers fall, the medium-sized fish multiply, leaving less phytoplankton to absorb CO2. The result? More global warming. See http://www.sharkwater.com
