The Death Penalty is an inhumane method to punish people of a capital crime. I do not believe that the federal government should use this great power to murder a person. The 8th amendment states, "nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted". According to this quote, the death penalty is unconstitutional. Many may argue that the death penalty is necessary. To them, the death penalty sets an example and will deter the would-be offenders. However, recent studies have actually shown that the death penalty may have no effect on the number of crimes committed. For example, the Southern states execute more people than the northern states, yet they have an more crimes. Obviously the death penalty is not a solution.
