I am petitioning to classify all images of and words by mass shooters as obscene, and grossly unfit for public television and other news outlets, effectively banning the damaging, dangerous promotion of mass murderers. If violence, nudity and harsh language are unacceptable material to air, why do we provide a national stage for mass murderers, and an opportunity to propel them to cult celebrity? The mere mention of these criminals only hurts families and friends of their victims, and provides ample motivation for those considering a killing spree of their own. Bombarding the public with the names and faces of killers sends one strong message above all others: Kill, and you will live forever. It is far past time to put a stop to this unacceptable stain on the culture we create and inhabit.
