Bar pharmaceutical companies from advertising drugs on television and in print and electronic media.

Created by J.M. on April 29, 2014

There is no evidence that advertising pharmaceuticals improves consumer health. On the contrary, due to the heavily biased presentation of drugs in advertisements which downplay the potential negative and even life threatening side effects, under informed and easily swayed Americans are badgering their doctors for medications they don't understand in order to treat diseases they believe to have only through self diagnosis, largely based on the same drug advertisements. Physicians have by and large proven to be unequal to the task of dissuading persistent patients from seeking risky treatments offered in these commercials, as many are compensated by pharmaceutical companies, while more scrupulous physicians can be circumvented by patients willing and able to acquire a second opinion.
