Begin a cash for guns program that would benefit shooting victims and their families.

I petition the Obama administration to create a nationwide cash for guns campaign. In which any firearm may be turned over to proper authorities for the sole purpose of destruction of that firearm. In return, the gun owner may receive a fair value for their firearm in a number of ways. The first and ideal option is to have the money go directly to a fund or charitable organization set up to provide relief to the families of the victims of the many public shootings that have occurred in our country. I think the US government should match any such charitable donation. The other options could be cash in hand or tax credit. The Federal and State governments should budget the funds to promote and ensure the successful management of this voluntary program.
