Begin a national Addiction Assistance and Recovery Program that aims to help, rather than arrest drug addicts!

Created by D.B. on March 30, 2016

As a person that has lost a loved one to prescription opiate addiction, I was deeply moved by your commitment to help those dealing with similar issues. This petition aims to create an Addiction Assistance and Recovery Initiative, a program that allows law enforcement officials to help, rather than arrest those that willingly seek help. Law enforcement can't simply arrest their way out of this problem. The program would allow people to walk into a police station, turn in their hard drugs/paraphernalia, and enter treatment WITHOUT being arrested. Similar programs, such as the Angel Initiative, already exist, but are limited to helping those with opiate addiction. We want EVERYONE in America have access to quality treatment for ANY type of addiction without being treated like a criminal!
