Begin the process of terraforming Mars

Created by D.R. on January 14, 2013

Future population growth and demand for resources may necessitate human colonization of objects other than Earth, such as Mars, the Moon, and nearby planets. Space colonization will facilitate harvesting the Solar System's energy and material resources. According to NASA, Mars is on the border of a region known as the extended habitable zone where concentrated greenhouse gases (could support the liquid water on the surface at sufficient atmospheric pressure. Therefore Mars has the potential to support a hydrosphere and biosphere. Perfluorocarbons (PFCs) can be used effectively to thicken the atmosphere of Mars. Once mars reaches a critical temperature, water-ice will melt releasing carbon-dioxide thus perpetually accelerating the process. Many scientists speculate on a 50-100 year timeline
