This petition asks the president to authorize funding from the defense and science budgets for research, design and construction of Starfleet starships as seen in the fictional Star Trek universe; and to create incentives for corporations, scientific organizations and other interested parties to join in creating starships.
Starships that can travel through space with advanced propulsion, defense and scanning systems will allow the United States to accelerate the study of space and the potential discovery of new natural resources. Starships will also drastically improve the nation's defense.
Developing starships will create jobs in various fields including construction and engineering. It will also inspire more people to study science and math.
