Suvir Mirchandani conducted a study in which, "using the Government Services Administration's estimated annual cost of ink -- $467 million -- [he] concluded that if the federal government used Garamond exclusively it could save nearly 30% -- or $136 million per year. An additional $234 million could be saved annually if state governments also jumped on board, he reported."
Gary Somerset has acknowledged this, but has been non-committal in making the change. Given the state of our economy, something so simple and effect should not be overlooked. If the Obama administration is truly as committed to the economy and environment as it claims, there is zero reason not to make this small change.
