In the wake of horrific tragedies involving both stolen and legally purchased guns in the US, and in responding to President Obama's call for meaningful action to address the causes and contributing factors to these events, the states or Congress should mandate insurance coverage for all gun owners, on each gun owned.
The Obama Administration should work with states or the Congress in crafting a national framework of standards governing these insurance policies. The goal of this should be to promote tighter security on legally owned firearms, to provide some measure of compensation to victims of crimes using guns, and to protect legal gun owners from civil actions resulting from legitimate use of guns in home and personal protection.
