Several petitions have been circulated recently requesting peaceful secession from the Union as a result of the 2012 Presidential Election results.
It is our position that, ignoring the fact that such a request would never be taken seriously, the people requesting such a thing are a fringe group, and do not represent the views of the majority of the citizens of their states.
To illustrate, I submit this petition on behalf of the remaining, level-headed citizens of the state of North Carolina. My hope is that we send a message: We are not interested in dramatic theatrics, and we will not tolerate foot-stamping and childish tantrums. Whether we, as individuals, are pleased with the outcome of the election or not, we all agree that these secession petitions do us all a disservice.
