Being necessary to the defense of the nation, address the deteriorating condition of our nation’s highways.

A national highway system, being integral to the defense of the nation, was implemented with the National Interstate and Defense Highways Act of 1956. As our nation has continued to expand its use of these roadways, the financial system that serves as the backbone of their maintenance, namely tollways and taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel, has not kept in step with the demands of the massive infrastructure. The funding of the highway system itself has become a political issue to be handed around by sessions of Congress, with little action.
The President, as Commander in Chief, must take action to ensure the continued safe and robust use of these resources, and to assure their availability, by installing new tollways and supporting the increase of taxes on gasoline and diesel fuels.
