Bestow the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Ursula K. Le Guin, one of America's finest writers.

Ursula K. Le Guin is an American writer, born in Berkeley, California in 1932. She began publishing her novels and poetry in the 1960s and has published 23 book length novels in addition to poetry and short stories. Ms. Le Guin is simply one of the best writers in America. Her prose style and literary talent is often overlooked and should be given due credit because of the importance of great writing to our country. While her typical genre is either fantasy or science fiction, her masterpieces, namely the "Left Hand of Darkness" and the EarthSea trilogy, transcend the genres. Harold Bloom listed the "Left Hand of Darkness" in the "The Western Canon." We should recognize her great writing and give a nod to the communities that already recognize her contribution.
