In recent years, Georgia, Alabama and Florida have passed laws that place time limits and require drug testing for those receiving TANF or other forms of Welfare Benefits. So far this year, the Federal Government has spent over $422 Billion on Welfare; funded by 6-8% of every dollar taxpayers earn. (Sources: GDP: Fed. Budget: Hist. Table 10.1, Federal: Fed. This incredible burden on taxpayers has become a running joke throughout the Country, with many of those in true need of Government assistance being discredited by those who merely exploit it. By holding people more accountable, and pairing this with a higher standard of wages (i.e.- a realistic, national minimum wage), the burden can be shared, fairly.
