In the past few years gun debates seem to have gotten quite a bit more difficult to navigate. Both sides want their own agenda accomplished. So it seems the only way to get anything accomplished is to agree on something totally non-partisan.
As was the case with Gerald Hume of Oklahoma, the current background checks are inadequate to prevent the mentally ill from buying firearms. If we were to properly enforce the mental health part of the background check we would be able to stop many more homicides.
Not only would the gun control side get more gun control but the gun advocants would keep their guns. As a proud firearm owner I take full responsibility on my end, so I expect the government to do the same on things such as adequate background checks
