Petition Background (Preamble):
Yet another act of gruesome violence claiming 26 innocent lives. From the malls to the cinema theaters to the schools to the places of worship, there have been far too many gun crimes claiming far too many innocent lives.
These acts of violence are a rude wake up call that we as a nation need to address the issues of gun control along with mental illness with equal seriousness.
There should be ban on assault weapons, restrictions on license validity periods, rigorous background checks, impose liability clauses.
Since gun control alone cannot help reduce these crimes, focus on mental health issues should be given equal importance, as these two issues are no longer isolated.
