Guns are an unfortunate part of today's world. With the Sandy Brook shootings (God be with their families), that fact has become even more prominent. As a result, many people are now advocating stricter laws that limit the ability to own guns. While these sentiments are with good intention, the fact remains that the people who commit these horrible acts do not and will not care what is legal.
The most practical solution is for the general public to defend themselves. If we allow ourselves to be less armed than criminals, they will always win. Would a robber hold up a gas station if he knew that all of the customers inside were carrying guns? And if he did, would he succeed?
The shooter at Sandy Brook wanted to get national attention. He would have found a way, regardless of the law.
