Block AT&T from threatening network neutrality with the new "Sponsored Data" service

Created by E.M. on January 07, 2014

AT&T announced "Sponsored Data," a way for web-based companies to pay for users' data when using their services. This only takes affect when a user exceeds the allotted data for their wireless plan.

So hypothetically, if Jack meets his 2 GB threshold on his AT&T iPhone for the month of January, Netflix can decide to pay for Jack's overages if he decides to stream their movies on his phone. They would only agree to pay for data associated with Netflix usage.

This is an unfair service that favors corporate e-giants like Google, Facebook, and Amazon. These companies have immense pockets to pull cash from. Smaller businesses and start-ups, like Instagram circa two years ago, will be left with an unfair disadvantage.
