Since the assault weapon ban of 1992 expired and made legal the sale of high capacity ammunition feeding devices legal again in some areas (NY continues the assault weapon ban as state law almost word for word including high capacity ammunition feeding devices) there has not been shown where this law stops any more problem than it creates. It has been left on the books as a prosecution tool and another chargeable crime to generate revenue for the state and make prison sentences longer. There is no difference in carrying one thirty round magazine or three legal ten round magazines. You still carry the same amount of ammunition. You could legally carry 100 legal magazines and there would be no law barring you from doing so but you would then have 1,000 rounds legally. The law is flawed.
