block implementation of DHS's border crossing fee along the US-Canada border.

Created by K.W. on April 21, 2013

Per the recent DHS's budget proposal for 2014, it has been proposed to charge an entry and/or exit fee for travel from US and Canada. It should be stricken from the budget proposal for the following reasons:

- It reduces border personnel responsible for security to cashiers. The purpose of evaluating travelers is to ensure American safety, not generate revenue.

- It violates visaless-entry principles. You can't simultaneously not require people to pay for an entry visa and then charge them anyway.

- It creates costly burdens for frequent-crossers, i.e. the daily commuters in Point Roberts, WA just for starters.

- It makes cross-border shopping more expensive.

- Can bus passengers be abandoned at the border if they fail to carry cash?

- Fundamentally, this is a "head tax".
