Borrowers and co-signers of private student loans should have repayment options similar to federal student loans like income based payment options that will help to repay loans. Auto-default should be forbidden against borrower especially when co-signer dies or files bankruptcy. The borrower should be able to release co-signer and continue to make payments according to borrowers income.
