Break up financial institutions that are too big to fail, starting with CitiGroup.

Created by S.P. on December 12, 2014

By forcing Congress to let them raid government funds to bail them out from bad decisions, Citigroup has shown that they wield so much political power that it threatens our democracy. They put a gun to the head of our government, and demanded that we let them do this, or they would shut down the government. As Teddy Roosevelt and Elizabeth Warren said, it is not that they wield too much economic power, the real problem is that they wield so much political power that the American tax payer has no power, no rights.

Given that they forced Congress to let them make risky gambles while forcing the government to cover their losses, we have no choice but to break these companies up such that no company is too big to fail. Then we can just let them fail when they make bad choices.
