For 70 years, it was illegal in the U.S. for a Wall Street Investment Bank to own a depositor bank and/or an insurance company, because smart, moral people knew that many on Wall Street are thieves and cannot be trusted to regulate themselves.
Our Congress and Presidency were then bought off by Wall Street Bankers, and Gramm Leach Bliley was passed in 1999 and the Commodities Futures Modernization Act in 2000. Those bills led to the housing bubble and the near financial collapse of 2008 and 2009.
Congress and the President should make it illegal once again for anyone to be an officer or a director of a Wall Street Bank and at the same time be an officer or a director of an insurance company or a depositor bank.
