We respectfully call on the President and Congress to substantially increase
funding for classroom education; but restrict federal funding to school
districts with less than 100,000 students.
The LA Unified School District (LAUSD) has 919,930 students at over 1,000
schools. It covers 720 square miles and includes the mega-city of Los
Angeles as well as all or parts of 31 smaller municipalities.
Chronic waste, fraud, and fiscal mismanagement sap the morale of 45,000
schoolteachers, starve our classrooms and prevent our children from getting
the resources taxpayers provide and they deserve.
We need smaller, smarter, locally based school districts that we, as
parents, teachers and taxpayers can hold to the highest standards of
academic excellence and fiscal management.
