break up the megabanks as proposed by the Dallas Fed in a 1/16/2013 speech by Richard W. Fisher.

Created by M.J. on January 26, 2013

12 US megabanks (assets over $250 billion) account for only 0.2% of US financial institutions but hold 69% of financial industry assets. These banks were deemed too big to fail in the 2007-09 financial crisis and were bailed out at US taxpayer expense. If not broken up, these megabanks will continue to take mega risks in search of mega profits in the (reasonable) belief that they are highly unlikely ever to face a bankruptcy proceeding.

This petition supports the proposal to break up these megabanks made by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas in a 1/16/13, speech by its president, Richard W. Fisher, (http://www.dallasfed.org/news/speeches/fisher/2013/fs130116.cfm) so that only commercial banks benefit from FDIC and the Fed's discount window. Shadow banking gets no taxpayer support.
