Since the '90's, performing artists and fans have been frustrated by the absurd fees fans must pay when purchasing tickets online. The high price of those fees, which often exceed 50% of the advertised ticket price, seem to only pay for the convenience of buying the ticket online. Yet in this highly digitized age, most major venues offer their tickets through only a single online source: Live Nation or Ticketmaster.
There has been a strong sentiment against these companies for over 20 years. Pearl Jam fought hard against Ticketmaster. Other bands and performers sometimes try to take on the Goliath. Fans hate the company.
How do they survive when two of the most important groups involved both hate them? They are a monopoly. It's time to break apart that monopoly and open up the market.
