Paying a LIVING WAGE would actually strengthen the economy, with more folks making a fair and just living, they would actually pay taxes rather than use tax dollars to take care of basic needs, as they do now. We need to stop the government subsidies to companies that pay poverty wages (government assistance to their underpaid employees).
Paying a living wage gives work dignity. There are actually many low paid workers who will not apply for food stamps and work two or three jobs to fill in for the money they lack to feed their families. If we paid them a fair wage, they could be home with their families more. Paying a living wage would be good for our country in so many ways.
This would not affect the lifestyle one bit.
