Bring Back Literacy as a Requirement to Vote

Created by C.L. on November 19, 2013

It is 2013. Everyone has an opportunity to be educated to a level of being able to at least read and write in the United States. The problem with voting is that many people who are uneducated and politically ignorant are voting for leaders of our country without knowing how they truly stand on the issues. To curb this ignorance and deter some people who do not have any interest in politics, the literacy test should be a requirement to vote. A simple test that you are competent and capable of reading a passage or writing a coherent sentence. Every citizen in America should be able to pass this simple test to vote in a national election. The people who aren't able to pass this basic, elementary test are not going to be educated enough on the issues to make an educated decision while voting.
