We petition the US government to bring back recess in our schools. Somehow over the last three decades or so, recess has disappeared in American schools. It used to be customary for elementary and middle school students to have three recess breaks during the school day: in the morning, after lunch, and in the afternoon. Now, students are lucky if they get one recess. This is unacceptable. Students need time for exercise, recreation and play. Is it any wonder that children in America today are overweight, can't pay attention, and have negative attitudes towards their education when they are warehoused in bureaucratic institutions 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 180 days a year? We can do better, America. Let's bring recess back! It is good for our children's bodies and minds.
