It is clear that Congress is completely out of touch with the vast majority of the American public. Although Congress certainly understands how to pander to the 1%, Congress clearly has no idea how the rest of America lives. It seems that the best way to accomplish this is to bring congressional pay and benefits into line with the AVERAGE American rather that the 1% of American currently served by Congress. We would propose that congressional pay be limited to the average wage of the average American. We would propose that the benefits, particularly health insurance, be similar in cost and coverage to the benefits of the average American. Vacation time, retirement benefits, and all the rest should mirror those of the AVERAGE American rather than the 1%.
