Millions of rural Americans receive their internet by extremely slow dial-up or limited and expensive cellular service from companies like Verizon. It has been reported that these companies received billions of dollars from state and federal agencies to extend their services into unserved rural areas, but that these funds have not been used as intended and many Americans remain unserved or poorly served. For example, my family in rural Missouri pays Verizon $205 per month for service so limited that YouTube, movies, etc. are precluded. Areas of our county with fiber-optics receive unlimited service for $19.99, but the phone company (Centurylink) says there are no plans to extend their services. The federal government should act to provide unlimited high-speed internet to all Americans.
