Traveling long distances within the nation can be very costly, and time consuming. Due to rising costs of gasoline and oil even traveling by bus is now becoming rather expensive. Traveling by car is both expensive, time consuming and very tiring. Unfortunately Amtrak comes out just as expensive as these other forms of transportation in most cases.
Maglev trains reach speeds up to 361 MPH (Japan's MLX01) due to the fact that there is also no physical contact between the train in the track, which also reduces wear and tear and makes for less maintenance issues. Maglev's are also environmentally friendly, as they do not resort to combustion engines. Due to the lack of wheels, and friction noise is greatly reduced. They're weather proof so rain, snow and severe cold do not hamper performance.
