Bring a message of shark conservation to the global stage

Created by D.D. on August 05, 2013

Sharks are quickly becoming an endangered species. There's an estimated 88 to 100 million sharks killed every year by humans. It's more likely for a person to be struck by lightning than killed by a shark. They clearly have more to fear from us than us from them. Shark finning has decimated populations all over the world. Sharks keep other populations of fish in check and are an irreplaceable part of the ocean's many habitats. With their reductions in numbers, areas have found that the rising numbers of species the sharks would usually be feeding upon were on the rise. These fish soon damaged the ecosystem, destroying several other species because of their unchecked numbers. The Obama administration should persuade other countries around the global to reconsider their finning policies.
