World War II ended in Europe on May 8, 1945. At that time, large parts of Europe lay in ruin. American soldiers were needed to keep security and provide stability. Soon after, our troops were also needed to prevent Soviet expansion. In both cases, our military performed admirably.
Today, Europe has integrated. The European Union has 27 member nations working closely together. Their total population numbers over 500 million. They are perfectly capable of defending themselves.
The Cold War ended in 1991. The Soviet Union no longer exists. At a time when our leaders are trying to balance the budget, we are spending an enormous amount of money defending an already strong Europe. We can't afford this.
We petition President Obama to bring all of our troops home from Europe.
