The postal service cannot survive in the computer age
by staying in the conventional letter service because
there is not enough revenue from it. Private internet
cafes and copy places like Kinko, etc. are surviving but
there is not enough presence. Libraries which offer limited computer services (but no faxing, scanning and
limited hours) are not viable. The post offices are in
an excellent position to provide the necessary services
because they are already present in key locations.
It is true that infrastructure renovation or remodeling
is necessary but this is the only way to save this great
institution from oblivion. It will still be the cheapest way
to save the communication that it has provided for more
than a century. Private companies like UPS and Fedex
uses the post office too.
