We should consider the death star not as a weapon but a docking station. How far can we go into space? We can put a station out there where we can refuel resupply and re-launch ships to go twice the distance. Not only will be we able to create a lot of new jobs and discover things two times the distance from our planet but we can use it as an earth protection unit. If we truly are not alone who says they are friendly. What if an asteroid or meteor heads towards earth and is capable of destroying us. If something happens to our planet we can send our people to the station as a living station until earth is safe again.
