Just as Kennedy announced a plan to go to the moon by 1970, Obama should announce a plan to build a space elevator by 2025, devoting real funds to basic science and engineering. The space elevator would reduce costs of space exploration and spacecraft launch by 98%, and would move us closer to missions to Mars and beyond. Our nation can still do big things. Inspire a new generation of students to study science and engineering: America can lead the way into space again.
